Petty Officer First Class Rush R. Evans was recognized as the Coast Guard Person of the Year Sunday evening at a special ceremony at the Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club. The award, sponsored by the Fox Valley Council of the Navy League of the United States, the City of Sturgeon Bay Coast Guard committee, the Yacht Club, & the Door County Maritime Museum, honors a local active duty Coast Guardsman who exemplifies the core values of honor, respect & devotion to duty.
Petty Officer First Class Evans heads up the engineering department at the Coast Guard Canal Station in Sturgeon Bay. He was presented a wood plaque depicting the Coast Guard seal by Navy League President Paul Muntean. In addition, Mayor Thad Birmingham read from a proclamation designating July 31st, 2011 as “Machinery Technician Rush R. Evans Day,” throughout the city. The other nominees were Chief Warrant Officer Jim Condra of the Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment & Petty Officer First Class Justin David of the Coast Guard Cutter Mobile Bay.
