More information on the US Coast Guard City celebration in Sturgeon Bay has been announced. The city was officially designated as a “Coast Guard City” on January 23rd, one of only 16 cities nationwide to be so honored & the first city in Wisconsin to receive the distinction. Not only did the Coast Guard have to sign onto the recommendation, but it took an Act of Congress to seal the deal. Additional activities may be scheduled, but so far, the Admiral’s Reception will be held at the Door County Maritime Museum on Friday, May 9th. That event is by invitation only. On Saturday, May 10th, the Coast Guard City ceremony will take place at Sawyer Park. In the event of rain, the event will be held at the fire station. Following the ceremony, Sawyer Park will be the site of a city-wide picnic. Then, on Sunday, May 11th, the Mother’s Day Community Breakfast will be served, from 8 to 11AM, at the East side fire station.
