City Approves Loan to Skatepark Initiative

The City of Sturgeon Bay will provide a loan of $42,350 so that the Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative can move forward with plans to build a ten thousand square foot, poured concrete skatepark on the West side of the city. The city council agreed to the loan during its regular meeting Tuesday evening. The skatepark initiative has reached its $405,000 fundraising goal, but donations totaling just over $42,000 are in the form of pledges that will be paid to the Door County Community Foundation through 2017. The city loan will be used to bridge the organization’s financial gap & the debt will be paid off as pledged funds come in. A total of 13 donors are involved. Once completed, the park will be open to skateboarders & BMX bikers alike. A groundbreaking is expected in the spring with a completed skatepark by the summer.
