Brush Fire Near Ellison Bay

Firefighters will tell you that a fire is never out until it is actually out. In other words, they make sure a fire is extinguished before they can finally wrap things up. A nasty brush fire off Timberline Road, near Ellison Bay, that started Friday afternoon continued to flare up over the weekend & into Monday. Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Chief Chris Hecht says the fire blackened about 80 acres of land, destroyed an out building & gave firemen a taste of what it is like to fight a forest fire…[audio:http://wdor.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/N1510.mp3|titles=Fire Chief Hecht]
Hecht also credited Jacob Grandsee for providing a piece of equipment that helped bring the fire under control…[audio:http://wdor.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/N1511.mp3|titles=Fire Chief Hecht]
Hecht also praised the support provided by all of the fire departments that responded to the mutual aid call last week. He says the fire is still under investigation.
