The body of a 45 year old Illinois man, who disappeared in the waters of Lake Michigan off of Washington Island following a boating accident on October 16th, has been recovered. Shortly before 1:30PM Monday, a resident on Washington Island called 911 to report that a body had washed up on the shoreline. Washington Island police & fire department personnel recovered the body about a quarter mile North of the original accident scene. It was later identified as Mayur Patel of Highland Park, Illinois. Patel & 49 year old Paolo Luzzati of Lisle, Illinois had taken a canoe out on that Sunday afternoon, but conditions deteriorated. As they tried to return to shore, the canoe capsized, tossing both men into the water. Patel stayed with the canoe as Luzatti swam to shore. However, when emergency personnel arrived at the scene, there was no sign of Patel. A search on land, water & in the air was mounted, with negative results & was eventually called of.
