The search continues at this time for a 32 year-old father who took his 2 children out sailing Saturday. The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office was notified Sunday that their return was overdue and a search began. By Sunday afternoon the search also involved the Wisconsin DNR, the Door County Sheriff’s Office, the US Coast Guard, Door County EMS, and multiple area fire & rescue departments.
The 18-foot sailboat was found unoccupied just south of Chambers Island just after 6:20 Monday morning. The US Coast Guard then reportedly towed the boat into Fish Creek. The Door County Dive Team was added to the search efforts.
It was at about 11:20AM when the bodies of two children were found in the water about 1 mile south of where the boat was found. At this time, the search for the father continues. This incident remains under investigation and we will report more on this tragic incident, and the ongoing search for the father, when more information is made available.
