What started out as the report of a bicycle theft on the west side of Sturgeon Bay led to a confrontation between city police & a mentally unstable man. The Green Bay man had to be tased before being taken into custody. The police report indicates the bike theft was called in from the 200 block of Maple Street. The owner gave officers a description of the bicycle & the person who had taken it. While canvassing the area, officers were told the man abandoned the bike in another yard & was on foot. One homeowner reported that the suspect had picked up an ax, but dropped it when he was confronted. Officers found him walking on Ironwood Street. The suspect refused to comply with their commands & began fighting with them. That’s when the taser was brought out. No officers were injured in the struggle. The man was checked out at Ministry Door County Medical & then transported to a medical facility for treatment of his mental condition. The police report & citations for disorderly conduct, resisting an officer, obstruction & theft have been sent to the district attorney’s office for possible charges.
