Bays & Islanders Tied for 1st in DCL

Egg Harbor gave Sister Bay their first loss of 2018 Sunday in the Door County League, 5-2. The Bays scored 1 in the first but Egg Harbor answered with 2 of their own in their half of the inning, and added 3 more in the 8th. Sister Bay was able to get a run across in the 9th but the rally fell short. Nick Kita, Casey Giesseman, & Cody Giesseman all had 2 hits for Egg Harbor. Al Byrne pitched 7 innings for the win and Riley Spetz earned the save. Sister Bay was led by Bubba Laughlin who had 3 hits. Sam Forkert took the loss, pitching 7 1/3 innings.

West Jacksonport scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning and cruised to a 13-1 win over Baileys Harbor. Riley Cordier carried a no hitter into the 7th inning but had to leave the game after suffering an injury. Cordier pitched 7 2/3 and was relieved by Drew Tanck and Woody Schartner. Sawyer Johnson had 3 hits, David Van Dreese & Jonas Lindemann had 2 hits each for the Ports. Daniel Case took the loss for the A’s.

Washington Island moves into a tie for 1st place with their win over Kolberg Sunday, 7-1. The Islanders pulled away from a 2-1 ball game in the 8th inning scoring 5 times. Caleb Cornell had 3 hits, Ben Johnson added 2, and Mitch Schreiber had 2 RBI. Matt Foss was the winning pitcher, Ernie Erickson took the loss. Trevor Hawkey & Hunter Pawleski had 2 hits each, and 14 year old Logan Jeanquart had his first DCL hit for the Braves.

Maplewood took advantage of 4 Institute errors, scoring 7 runs in the 1st inning, to beat the Cubs 10-2. Zach Marchant had 4 hits and 2 RBI, Adam Gutschow added 3 hits, and Kyle Ploor scored 3 times for the Mets. Nick Brauer earned the win. Kyle Volkman had 3 hits and Zack Christianson had 2 for Institute.
