Architect Selected for Cana Island Restoration

River Architects of La Crosse have been selected to oversee the Cana Island preservation, rehabilitation & restoration project near Baileys Harbor. The Door County Board Tuesday selected the firm to take charge of project design, bidding, construction, coordination, management & inspection. In 2009, a study outlined the stabilization & restoration work needed on the island’s historic buildings including the light tower, keeper’s quarters, oil house, privy, & barn. The cost of the contract with River Architects will be paid from the Cana Island restoration fund. The Door County Maritime Museum is involved in the day-to-day operation of the famous lighthouse & grounds on Cana Island. Oversight is provided by the county’s airport & parks committee.
