It looks as though the practice of coming to Door County to visit during the warm weather months has been going on since ancient times. For the past few weeks, professionals from Midwest Archeology Consultants have been looking for evidence of habitation at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay by conducting a shovel survey along Big Creek. Principal investigator Randy Dickson says the study indicates that there was a short-term occupation or “field camp” at the creek. When the fish filled big creek during spawning, Native Americans exploited the resource. A workshop on archeology will be held at10AM on Saturday. Stone artifacts will be cleaned for further study & storage. Cleaning will be done in the lower level of the Collins Learning Center.
