Motorists in Sturgeon Bay learned what it was like to drive in Sturgeon Bay with only 1 bridge after an accident on the Michigan Street Bridge forced its closure for more than an hour and a half Sunday. At about 11am, the driver of a 40ft recreational vehicle apparently went beyond the emergency gates during a bridge opening. As the large counterweight came down, it crushed the front of the motorhome. Luckily, none of the occupants of the vehicle were injured. It wasn’t until 12:37pm that the accident had been investigated, the R.V. extricated and debris cleaned up at the site so that traffic could be moving over the Michigan Street Bridge once again.
The hope is that the Bayview Bridge project will be wrapped up this week so that travelers will have 3 bridges to choose from in Sturgeon Bay once again.
