The Door County Sheriff’s Office has released details of a three-vehicle crash on Highway 57, north of Orchard Road, in Sister Bay, Wednesday afternoon. The initial investigation indicates that a 2009 Ford Escape, driven by a 26-year old Baileys Harbor woman, was traveling south on 57 when it struck a northbound 2011 Nissan Rogue, driven by a 25-year old Sister Bay man. The Ford Escape continued south and then struck a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban head-on. The suburban was driven by a Freeport, Illinois man. Five people were injured in the crash. Two of the victims had life-threatening injuries, one had serious injuries, and, two others had minor injuries. Two of the injured parties were treated at the scene, two others were airlifted to hospitals in Green Bay and Milwaukee, and, one other was taken to Door County Medical Center for treatment. Highway 57 was closed for several hours and traffic was detoured around the crash scene. A traffic reconstruction specialist from the Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting the Door County Sheriff’s Office in its investigation. Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash. The traffic accident remains under investigation. Besides the Door County Sheriff’s Office, personnel from the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove, Ephraim and Baileys Harbor Fire Departments, Sister Bay/Liberty Grove First Responders and Door County Emergency Services responded to the accident call at 4:40 p-m. The crash site was reopened at 9:25PM Wednesday.
