14 Year old Injured in Crash at Raceway Saturday Night

The “jaws of life” was needed to extricate a 14-year old Door County youth from a race car that rolled onto its side at the Thunderhill Raceway in Sturgeon Bay Saturday evening. The teenager, Cody Rass of Sturgeon Bay, was pinned in the wreckage of the vehicle leaking gas after barrell-rolling down the front stretch. The Sturgeon Bay Fire Department was paged out at 7:48PM & two units & four firefighters responded. They found Rass conscious & alert & complaining of generalized body pain. They used the “jaws” to cut away metal & stood by with a fire hose in the event the vehicle ignited. Rass was extricated & transported by ambulance to Ministry Door County Medical Center. An unconfirmed report indicated that he was later transported to a Green Bay hospital for treatment of a neck injury. The fire crews returned to the station at 8:13PM.
