The Wisconsin DNR and the Baileys Harbor Fish Company are working together with the Door County Food Pantry Coalition to get local-caught salmon on the shelves at nine Door County food pantries. They will harvest and process 11,000 pounds of salmon during this year’s salmon run at Strawberry Creek. This will provide a source of high-quality protein to these local pantries for an entire calendar year. This salmon will provide crucial support to individuals and families in our community facing food insecurity. On Thursday, October 10th, members of the DNR, the Food Pantry Coalition, and the Baileys Harbor Fish Company will observe and facilitate the salmon harvest operation at Strawberry Creek. That salmon will subsequently make its way to the shelves of the nine food pantries that make up the coalition as far south as Maplewood and as far north as Washington Island. You’ll find a list of these food pantries at doorcountycommunityfoundation.org.
