Ice Rescue Wednesday off Sherwood Point

An emergency call was made for an ice rescue Wednesday afternoon just offshore from Sherwood Point in the Town of Nasewaupee. Just after 4:30PM, it was reported that a 6-person side by side UTV went through the ice with 3 occupants on board. Nasewaupee Fire & Rescue were paged to the scene along with the US Coast Guard. Nasewaupee Firefighter Kyle Sheehy reports they sent 1 engine, 1 brush truck, and the air boat to the scene. Sheehy explains their response…

All 3 fishermen were safely on shore and all responders were able to clear the scene within one hour. As of Thursday morning, the UTV was reportedly still below the ice. Sheehy wanted to take the opportunity to remind everyone to remain cautious if going out on the ice, and that no ice is 100% safe.
