Washington Island has started the season 3-0 as they beat West Jacksonport Sunday, 4-0. The Islanders scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings and Troy Jorgenson (3-0) picked up the win. Jorgenson tossed a complete game shutout, scattering five hits. Aaron Delorit and Caleb Cornell each had two hits for Washington Island while Woody Schartner and Ryan Tanck had a pair of hits for West Jacksonport (1-2). Schartner (1-1) took the loss as he pitched into the seventh for the Ports.
Sister Bay scored three times in the first and never trailed as they beat Institute, 11-5. Tom Sawyer had four hits and scored four times for Sister Bay (2-1). Stuart Larsen added two hits and was on base five times. Larsen drove in four runs. Al Higgenbotham, Justin Hartel and Tucker Emerson all added two hits for Sister Bay. Wil Henriksen (1-1) pitched the first seven for the win. Kyle Volkmann and Matt Petersilka each had two hits for Institute (1-2). Volkmann gave up eight runs, six earned, in four innings. Volkmann (1-2) took the loss.
Egg Harbor snapped a 2-2 tie with three runs in the seventh and then broke the game open by sending nine to the plate in a six run eighth. That late outburst for Egg Harbor was enough to beat Maplewood, 11-2. Jason Fuller had four hits and scored three times for Egg Harbor (2-1). Matt Ash added three hits including a three-run homer. Brian Cook and Joe Sawyer each had three hits. Rob Schartner (1-0) picked up the win in relief. John Price had two doubles for Maplewood (0-3) and Kyle Ploor and Jordan Olson each had a pair of hits. Kyle Ploor (0-1) pitched into the eighth inning and took the loss.
Baileys Harbor (0-2) at Kolberg (2-0) was postponed due to poor field conditions following Saturday’s rain. That contest has been rescheduled for July 4th.
