The Sturgeon Bay swimming team had their season come to an end at the Stevens Point Sectional on Saturday. Despite swimming their best times of the season in 13 of the 18 events, the Clippers had no State Tournament qualifiers. Trevor Smith had a 5th place finish in both the 200IM and 100 Breaststroke. Doug Foss made it to the podium with 8th place finishes in the 100 Backstroke and 50 Freestyle. Garrett Sowl also made the podium finishing 8th in the 200 Freestyle.
Coach Tony Smith said that “both the Medley relay and the 400 Freestyle relay were highlights as significant time was dropped in both. The 200 Medley was seeded 6th and finished 4th and the 400 Freestyle relay dropped 9 seconds to move from 7th seed to 5th. These major moves allowed us to outscore Shawano by 1.5 points to claim 6th place. No swimmers will advance to state, but we managed to swim our best meet of the year.”
Medley Relay: Doug Foss, Trevor Smith, Nate Danz, Lance Martens
400 free relay: Doug Foss, Garrett Sowl, Lance Martens, Trevor Smith
Sturgeon Bay finished 6th out of 9 team at the Stevens Point Sectional.
