Week Six In The DCL

Sister Bay has a two game lead in the Door County League after Sunday’s home win over Kolberg.  Second place in the league standings also cleared up a bit with West Jacksonport and Institute picking up wins.

Sister Bay beat Kolberg 12-8.  Sister Bay led 10-1 after five innings and then held on for the win.  Sam Forkert had three hits including a three-run homer.  Matt Hecht added three hits for Sister Bay (6-0) while Tom Sawyer, Dusty Johnson, Stuart Larsen and Al Higginbotham all had two hits.  Wil Henricksen (2-0) pitched into the eighth for the win.  Travis LeRoy, Jesse Miller and Austin Rohe all had two hits for Kolberg (3-3).  Joseph Omilinsky (3-2) took the loss.

West Jacksonport beat Egg Harbor, 10-2 in a game shortened to seven innings due to rain.  West Jacksonport (4-2) scored once in the third to take a 3-2 lead.  The Ports then added two in the fifth and five in the sixth.  Eric Bely had three hits and scored three runs and Cody Leist added two hits in the win.  Tanner Biwer (4-0) picked up the win.  Jason Fuller had two hits to lead Egg Harbor (3-3).  Dave Jilot (2-2) pitched into the sixth and took the loss.

Maplewood blanked Washington Island, 1-0.  Maplewood (3-3) scored once in the bottom of the ninth for the win.  The Mets loaded the bases and Alan Karas scored on a fielder’s choice.  Karas had two of Maplewood’s four hits.  Calvin Falk (2-2) went the distance for the win.  Washington Island (1-5) pounded out eleven hits by could not score.  Caleb Cornell, Craig Gunnlaugsson, Matt Foss, Dave Heath and Troy Jorgenson all had two hits.  Jorgenson (1-4) took the loss.

From Friday night:
Institute beat Baileys Harbor, 11-3.  Institute (4-2) wasted no time getting out in front as they batted around and scored four runs in the bottom of the first.  The cubs broke the game open by scoring four runs in the fourth to make it 8-1.  Kyle Volkmann (3-2) went the first five and picked up the win.  Aaron Ash had two hits and scored three times for Institute.  Brett Anschutz (0-4) took the loss for Baileys Harbor (0-6).
