Institute Hands Sister Bay First Loss

Institute celebrated fan appreciation day by giving Sister Bay its first loss of 2014 Sunday.  However, West Jacksonport failed to take advantage of Sister Bay’s loss as they fell to Washington Island.  Also Sunday, Kolberg beat Baileys Harbor and Egg Harbor blanked Maplewood.  Here’s Sunday’s Door County League recap:

Institute doubled up Sister Bay, 4-2.  Down 2-0, Institute (6-4) scored four times in the fourth inning.  Danny Allen’s two-run triple tied the game at two.  Josh Paul then sent Allen to the plate with a single and Kyle Volkmann added an RBI single.  Volkmann (4-4) went the distance for the win.  Tom Sawyer had two hits and scored both runs for Sister Bay (9-1).  Dusty Johnson also had a pair of hits in the loss.  Wil Henriksen (4-1) pitched into the fourth and took the loss.

Washington Island beat West Jacksonport, 9-6.  Washington Island (4-6) scored seven runs in the bottom of the first to erase a one run deficit.  Matt Foss, Luc Rose and Con McDonald all had two hits in the win.  Mark Woerfel (1-1) pitched into the sixth and earned the win.  Foss then came on and picked up his first save.  Cody Leist hit a two-run homer for West Jacksonport (6-4).  Drew Tanck had two hits and drove in three runs.  alec Schartner had two hits and Tanner Biwer led the way with three.  Biwer (6-2) went the first seven and took the loss.

Egg Harbor blanked Maplewood, 7-0.  Egg Harbor (5-5) scored twice in the second and never looked back.  Jake Junion hit a grand slam in the seventh.  Brian Crook also homered in the win.  Crook had two hits while Nick Kita added three.  Dave Jilot (4-2) tossed a six-hit shutout.  Chad LaLuzerne (0-1) went the first seven and took the loss.

Kolberg beat Baileys Harbor, 9-5.  Down a run, Kolberg (6-4) pulled in front for good in the eighth.  Eric Lardinois and Austin Rohe each had a pair of hits to led Kolberg.  Mitchel Neubauer (1-0) went the distance for the win.  Mike Larsen started the game for Baileys Harbor (0-10) with a home run.  Neil Dunkel had four hits and Derek Niedzwiecki added two.  Sam Ausloos (0-2) took the loss for Baileys Harbor.
