Half Marathon Accepting Bribes

The Door County Half Marathon is full, but you can still get a spot in the race – for a price.

That’s right, you can “bribe” your way into the race by making a $250 donation to the Friends of Peninsula State Park. Your entire entry fee will go to the friends group.

“We got the idea from the Dipsea race in San Francisco,” said race director Brian Fitzgerald. “They openly accept ‘bribes’ to get into that race, with the money going to trail maintenance for the course. We had some inquiries about this last year, and we know how important the Friends group is to the park, so we figured we’d do the same thing.”

Organizers have made 10 “bribe” registrations available for the race, which has been named one of the best in the Midwest by Competitor and Runner’s World magazines.

To “bribe” your way into the race email mary@doorcountyhalfmarathon.com or call Mary Knutson 920.421.1519.

The 7th edition of the half marathon takes place May 3, 2014, with a post-race party at Husby’s in Sister Bay.
