Englebert and Destiche Win State Championships

Southern Door’s Jacob Englebert and Luke Destiche from Luxemburg-Casco won State Titles at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Championships at the Kohl Center in Madison on Saturday Night.

Englebert, who missed the 2013 tournament because of an injury, won the Division 2 145 pound title with a 2-1 decision over Dewey Kreuger of Oconto Falls.  Englebert finishes with a record of (49-1) with his only loss to Jared Scharenbrock (51-0) of Sun Prairie, the Division 1 152 pound champion.  Englebert is the fourth Southern Door wrestler to win a State Title.

Destiche, who won the Division 2 220 pound championship for the second year in a row, beat Kenny Gates of Amery with a 13-4 major decision.  Destiche also finished 3rd as a sophomore and went (130-19) in the last three years.  It’s the 35th State Title for Luxemburg-Casco.

L-C’s Dan Dorner (195) finished in 5th place by defeating Brock Steldt of Ellsworth while Austin Worachek (145) placed fourth after losing to Joe Crook of River Valley.  David Steinhorst of Kewaunee (195) placed 6th.
