The Door County YMCA Sturgeons won the CanAm Midwestern Championship in Underwater Hockey this weekend at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.  The Sturgeons played teams from Illinois, California, Minnesota and Michigan.  After losing to the Michigan State team on Saturday, the Sturgeons would beat them 3-1 for the championship of the “B” Division on Sunday.

Underwater Hockey is a global non-contact sport in which two teams compete to maneuver a puck across the bottom of a swimming pool into a goal.

The Underwater Hockey team hosts open practices and lessons at the Sturgeon Bay YMCA every Friday evening from 6:30-8pm. Beginners and non-Y members ages 9 and up are welcome to attend.
