Johnsrud Drops Out of Assembly Race

A candidate for state assembly in the first district has decided to drop out of the race. Arnie Johnsrud, who would have been on the ballot for the fall election as a Democrat, says he now supports former Sevastopol school administrator Joe Majeski for the position currently held by Garey Bies, who is retiring after 14 years in the state legislature. Johnsrud, a Kewaunee County farmer & former agriculture teacher for the Kewaunee School District, made his decision to withdraw after consulting family & friends. He says he is supporting Joe Majeski because the Door County resident shares his vision for state legislative leaders including support for voters & women’s rights, jobs, local control of the environment, & strong public education. Johnsrud made a run for the assembly seat in 2012, but lost in a Democratic primary. Speaking of primaries, because five Republicans have announced as candidacies for the first district assembly seat, a primary will be needed in August.
