For years, Door County has housed its juvenile offenders at the Manitowoc County Juvenile Detention Center. However, that facility has now closed. The Brown County Sheriff’s Department has offered to place the juveniles in secure detention in its facility & the Door County Department of Human Services supports the idea. In addition, Brown County has offered to provide the service at significantly lower rates if Door County enters into a five year contract. By its own rules, the Door County Board must approve any contract that exceeds three years. The board is expected to do so at its Tuesday meeting. Supervisors will also be asked to approve the transfer of $12,140 to cover the 2013 portion of the juvenile detention contract with Brown County.
