Door County Homeless Shelter?

The effort to provide a homeless shelter at the Southern Door Community Church is on hold for the moment, but Pastor Paul Peterson is hoping that area residents will come around to the idea of helping the less fortunate get back on their feet. Peterson says the proposed shelter would be patterned after the Freedom House in Green Bay. He says the organization has been mentoring the small congregation in the procedures for providing shelter for those who have no place to live…
Pastor Peterson says, eventually, residents of the shelter find employment & transition into a different living arrangement. He says the plan calls for room for five families to be created in the church basement…
Peterson says donations will provide the funding for the program…
Pastor Peterson acknowledges that there has been opposition to the homeless shelter idea. His request to the Union Town Board for a conditional use permit remains tabled for the time being.
